Introduction to Breanna

While going through the onboarding process to become a marketing intern at DSG, I learned about the tradition of the Intern Notebook. The Intern Notebook is a way for interns to share their experiences during their time as DSG and I am enthused to be writing my first one!

Here is a little bit about myself. My name is Breanna Shidlensky and I am a senior at West Chester University, studying psychology with a minor in digital marketing. I declared a minor in digital marketing the spring semester of my junior year and have been captivated by the field ever since.

Getting Started

When I look back at the interview process, I remember feeling excited and nervous about starting an internship in the digital marketing space. After all, I major in psychology which is where most of my specialty lies. From my marketing courses, I was able to gain the foundational knowledge of digital marketing but was not sure how that translated into the real world. After meeting the team members at DSG during my in-person interview, I had no doubt that I would gain such insight into the marketing field.

What I’ve Been Working On

Over my first few weeks, I have been brought onto many projects and tasks. I was assigned to shadow Jack, a former intern and current team member who works on a little bit of everything. I have been able to observe the content creation side of DSG including how we market ourselves as a company. I have also had a chance to dive into a number of software platforms DSG uses including: MatchCraft, TapClicks, and Yext.

Last week, I was tasked with updating the promotional deals for a client in MatchCraft. It was my responsibility to make sure each location displayed the new deal and through this assignment I was able to get a better idea of both the software and the client.

The Future

As I become a more integral part of the DSG team, I look forward to exploring other aspects of the digital marketing world. I am eager to gain more knowledge in areas such as pay-per-click, account management, and content marketing.

I am anxious but very excited to graduate in May and officially be part of the working world. Originally, I came into college with the idea of pursuing psychology to find my passion. Now after exploring both psychology and digital marketing, I see the multiple paths that I can take.

Each day I am surrounded by marketing professionals and I know by listening and learning from them I will acquire the necessary tools to be successful after graduation.

Be on the lookout for my next journal entry!
