Introduction to Erin

I am delighted to share my first Intern Notebook for Summer 2023 at DSG! My name is Erin Haughey, and I am going into my senior year of college at West Chester University. I am studying Marketing with a minor in Digital Marketing. I’ve been interning at DSG for a little over a month now and each day has been an adventure. Every workday so far something different has happened, facing me with new tasks that excite me to push further.

Getting Started & Settling In

Once I met with Mike and Robyn on Google Meet back in February, I knew DSG was where I wanted to kick off my marketing career.

I declared a minor in digital marketing at the beginning of my junior year at WCU and knew that this is where I could gain ultimate exposure and experience. Now given the opportunity to be the summer intern at DSG, I will be further equipped to gain insight into what specifically I’d aspire to do with my marketing career.

The days leading up to my first day were filled with a wide range of emotions. Starting something new often brings a mix of excitement, nervousness as well as anticipation. I have taken a handful of marketing classes in my past; however, this hands-on experience is my best course of action pertaining to learning what the marketing world is truly like.

Each day I come into the office I walk in excited to see what my day will look like. No matter how busy everyone is, Mike makes the effort to share a bright smile to everyone in the office, while Paige warmly asks how our previous weekend went, and Travon begins to tell us a story from his adventurous past. The office environment is inviting and supportive. In the morning’s I take a look at the meetings assigned to me that day as well as checking for any important emails coming my way. This is just the beginning, but I already feel incredibly welcomed.

Assigned Projects & Tasks

Now that it has been a few weeks into this experience, I have worked on a little bit of everything. Some days are busier than others, but each task completed makes me feel like a true asset to the team. Last week, my fellow intern Joe & I were assigned to post the weekly Adplorer video to DSG’s Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn. Posting content for a company has always been one of the many things I want to dive into, so getting a taste of how to make the posts look pleasing to the eye while remaining informational to the company was something I want to learn more about.

Another task I was assigned was to go in and check a plethora of Google Business Profiles for VCA. It was my job to change the dates for a deal VCA is offering as well as to create post offerings for any VCA location that may not have them displayed. All in all, I like to make sure the work assignments I hand in are done with high quality and up to my supervisors’ standards.

Moving Forward

I am two semesters away from getting into the workforce, and so far, DSG has provided me with great examples and opportunities of what to expect when I am off on my own. I would not have been able to get this type of exposure through any course at West Chester and am extremely appreciative of this opportunity. Now I have a better perception of how to efficiently talk to clients, building campaigns from the ground up, and how to tackle obstacles that manifest in advertising. I also see how the team works together and how they individualize into certain tasks.

Staying proactive and hands-on is an important part of being an intern, therefore I will continue to make it a priority to stay on track and work hard. Here at DSG I am trusted with my own work to produce and share with my colleagues, and I am looking forward to seeing what else is in store for me. I am honored to have this opportunity and cannot wait to learn more!

Until my next notebook,

Erin
