DSG Internship Week 7

It’s been  four weeks since my  first blog which described the beginning stages of my internship at DSG. It is now week 7, and with every meeting, and every “day in the life of a digital media intern”, I feel like I am now in the thick of it, truly living and learning agency life. My experiences have clearly exceeded my expectations and I am eager to share an exciting new project  I’ve been working on “The CareerTracks Podcast”.

 Leaning Into Something New

The CareerTracks podcast is a new venture for DSG. The inspiration for the podcast is to take our guests back to that time when they were first starting their marketing careers and have them share the journey that brought them to where they are today.

As a communications major, and an avid podcast junkie, I have always been interested in learning more about podcasting, but  it is not something I have actually done before.  So, I was grateful for the opportunity to be chosen for this project.

Then, my Supervisor Michael Schnall suggested I co-host the podcast with fellow intern Jack Marinello.  Instantly, as excited as I was about the project , I was equally nervous! The question and answer dialogue, the possibility of dead air – and yes, having to hear my own voice on audio were all daunting . But it was happening, Michael reminded me that my parents had named me Gabby so I should be a natural talking on-air!  Ultimately, it was my choice to sink or swim.

Last week was our first episode recording, it was showtime (again) and I’m swimming! Have I mentioned that not only has my knowledge grown over the past seven weeks, but my confidence has grown as well. It is safe to say that all my worries were pushed aside once we were in the studio and the recording started..  Everything felt very natural and I am glad DSG gave us the opportunity as interns to initiate something new for the company.

What Is CareerTracks About?

I am a huge podcast listener. I’m an advocate for this type of media because it’s a great way to get to know someone on a deeper level. A podcast allows the listener to not only hear an interview, but become part of that interview – as though they were sitting down with the person in their own living room. The interviewee speaks for themselves, in their own words, and along the way, the listener gets a glimpse of who they are, both inside and outside of the office.

Our podcast will be highlighting various employees, partners and vendors of DSG as they   explore their careers starting with right where I am today, ready to graduate and enter the workforce. As an intern,  this is a tremendous  learning opportunity – not only to learn new skills  but to truly benefit from the advice and experience of marketing industry professionals We are in post production now and I can’t wait for the first episode to drop.   We had a great first guest and a lot of fun.  Hope you will listen in and enjoy it as much as we enjoyed producing it!
