As my internship comes to an end and I begin to write my last entry for DSG’s Intern Notebook, I’d like to reflect on my experience here and a few things I’ve learned throughout my journey. Looking back on my first entry where I discussed not knowing what to expect, it is safe to say that I still stand true to my thoughts that sometimes “expecting the unexpected” can have a good outcome.

Maturing Through Experience and Mentorship

Throughout my internship, I truly feel that I matured as a person, an intern, and a part of the DSG Digital Marketing Company team. I have gained a wealth of knowledge that will assist me as I move on to my next chapter.  DSG has given me industry experience, technological knowledge, problem solving skills, and most importantly, DSG has modeled an exceptional example of what it means to be part of a team . These skills are invaluable, and ones I will carry with me through the rest of my career.

I began my journey at DSG fearing the unknown. I desperately wanted to learn and experience everything I possibly could, but at the same time, I constantly feared the “what ifs”.  Thanks to the incredible staff at DSG, I have changed as a person, and along the way, have gained tremendous insight.

Life is meant to come with challenges and every challenge comes with a chance to solve it.  Sometimes there will be bumps in the road, but one of the most important skills I will take away from my internship is the ability to approach them head on with determination and confidence.

Before starting my internship I would tend to think a broken laptop or faulty wifi was the end of the world and there was nothing I could do about it. Throughout these past four months of faulty college housing wifi and two broken laptops, I am here to say that there is always something you can do about it and just accepting defeat is not an option in corporate life.

Beyond Just Experience: Keys to Success in the Workplace

Being exposed to the industry through my internship has allowed me to gain an in-depth understanding of how the business operates. This exposure has prepared me for the future career path I intend to take in marketing and content creation. Learning the best way to communicate with clients, as well as constructing email campaigns professionally was a huge stepping stone and a positive growth experience.

In addition, my time management skills have improved immensely. I’m sure I’m not alone when I admit that working as an intern while wrapping up your last semester as a graduating senior is definitely not easy. That being said, I would never change the experience I’ve had over the past months.  I have learned to prioritize tasks and allocate time to each activity, which has helped me become more productive and efficient. All these experiences have shaped me into a better employee, and I am grateful for the opportunities that have allowed me to grow and mature in the workforce.

Expanding my Interests

Expanding my interests has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my journey at DSG. I am extremely grateful to have a great team of mentors as well as my manager, Michael Schnall, who believed in me enough to assign me a leading role in creating new avenues of content and branding for DSG. Being a co-host for the first ever company podcast, writing weekly blogs, and producing content for the company has given me the opportunity to tap into my creative side.

Through these projects, I have discovered different areas of interest that I would have never explored otherwise. Being given the freedom to work on these projects has allowed me to learn new skills and fine tune existing ones. I would like to end my last intern blog with a giant thank you to the entire DSG team. Because of all of you, I have gained confidence, insight, and an amazing intern experience! I am excited to keep exploring new interests as I continue to grow both personally and professionally.
