Coming up on the end of July, it has now been close to two months since I started interning with DSG. My daily tasks and responsibilities have really started to take off these past few weeks and I thoroughly enjoy being a part of this great team. In my previous notebook I was still in the process of getting used to things, but now I find myself right in the middle of many projects and daily activities.
Agency Life
I now understand what Paige & Mike meant when they said every day is going to be different. Here at DSG we work with clients in numerous verticals ranging from veterinary hospitals to medical practices to home services. One of the key things I have learned during my internship is how to actively listen to assess a client’s marketing goals. Also, how to utilize our agency tools and processes to develop tactics and strategies to achieve our clients’ objectives .
I recently was given the opportunity to work with the account team for a new and upcoming client of ours. This client is a funeral home that is looking to increase awareness, web traffic as well as needing in-depth competitive analysis in their markets. The team works closely together and meets regularly to update each other on our research, progress and individual tasks.
For me, a key take-away from this project is the importance of communicating with and trusting your colleagues. I was grateful that the team trusted me to work on this project and treated me as an equal and integral part of the team. This is still a work in progress, but so far I have created an Asana project relating to this client as well as a slide deck for the team and I to add to.
Another project that is in the works is a reimagined DSG podcast. I’ve never worked on a podcast or knew anything about all the production that goes into creating one, but Paige, Michael, Gabby, Joe and I have been meeting weekly to share new ideas as well as keep the ball rolling. The ideas that have been shared only keep me excited to learn more about how this will all play out, and I look forward to hearing more from the team each time we meet.
Senior Year Rapidly Approaching
It’s hard to believe that my internship is coming to a finish and that my senior year at West Chester University is starting at the end of August. It’s amazing how much I have learned in just two months and I am certain that this hands-on experience will complement my work at school.
This semester I am taking two marketing courses, Entrepreneurial Marketing and Campaign & Event Marketing. I now have the advantage of using my experience at DSG to offer different perspectives and insights on topics discussed in class as well as a foundation of first hand knowledge and real world relevant examples. I will continually reflect on my intern experience in order to refine my approach in future classes ahead.
I’m grateful for this exceptional opportunity, and I’m excited to share more of what I’ve learned and experienced in my next notebook.
