Introduction to Paige

Since this is my first intern notebook, I’d like to introduce myself! I’m Paige Buchwald, a senior at West Chester University majoring in marketing with minors in analytics and digital marketing. As you can probably tell, I’m passionate about marketing. My classes and areas of study have prepared me well for entering the business world. Not only have I gained knowledge in various aspects of marketing, but I also feel ready to apply this knowledge in a real-world setting.

As I approach the end of my first month as an intern at DSG, I’m starting to feel more integrated into the team and the work we do. In the beginning, everything was new and a bit overwhelming, but now I find myself diving into various projects and daily tasks with enthusiasm.

My Experience So Far

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been entrusted with a variety of tasks, and I’m starting to feel more comfortable in my role. This experience is also helping me identify what I want to focus on in my future career. One thing that stands out to me about agency life is the diversity of clients we work with. From veterinary hospitals to home services, each client has unique needs and goals. I’ve learned the importance of active listening to understand a client’s marketing objectives and how to use agency tools and processes to develop effective strategies.

I’ve been immersing myself in understanding the functionality of the numerous software programs we use to support our clients, along with delving into database management, an area I would like to focus on in the future.

Shadowing Marketing Specialists Rob and Tom have been incredibly insightful; they’ve integrated me into the team, allowed me to sit in on meetings, and taken the time to explain how DSG utilizes different resources. With a minor in business analytics, I’ve also had the opportunity to attend our Operations Director Robyn’s meetings and instructional sessions. I’m looking forward to more of this soon! Another exciting project I’ve been involved in is brainstorming ideas for our social media content. Being part of a creative team, whether it’s developing new questions for the 5MT podcast or designing new case study templates in Canva, has been interesting and rewarding.

Classroom to Office

As my internship progresses, I can already see how the hands-on experience at DSG will provide valuable insights and examples for my coursework. Everything is starting to sync between my coursework and the work I do in the field through the internship.

For example, in my classes I have used Google Ads to create campaigns and strategies. This included tasks such as keyword selection and campaign optimization. I also learned how to analyze ad performance metrics and adjust strategies based on data insights. Participating in the search team’s strategy meetings, I get to see how this knowledge gets deployed on live campaigns.  My experience in both settings has allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of the effectiveness of Google Ads.

The Future

Overall, I’m grateful for the opportunity to intern at this agency and excited to see what the future holds as I continue to learn and grow in this dynamic field! Stay tuned for my upcoming journal entry!
